When I was younger, once of my favorite activities was bowling. The bowling alley was really close to my house and my friends and I would go there all the time. It was fun and it was cheap. As I got older, we stopped going bowling; while it was still cheap, bowling alleys seemed like they were all stuck in the 70s and we had all moved on to the 90s, then the 2000s and beyond.

Lately though, my daughter has been asking me to go bowling, so I got to thinking about going bowling again and wanting to take my kids to have fun like I did when I was younger. Last week, I took my son to check out Boardwalk Bowl; we had such a good time that we will go back again with my daughter when she gets back from camp.

Visiting Boardwalk Bowl Entertainment Center with the Kids

Don’t be fooled by the outside when you pull up at Boardwalk Bowl. It is located in a strip mall of Colonial and is not very pretty look at from the outside. That all changes when you open the door and walk into the building. I am pretty sure that you will definitely be impressed like my son and I were when entered what I would term the “lobby” of the building.

Boardwalk Bowl is huge and is not like any bowling alley that I have been to before. Up front they have an arcade on one side and then a private room that can be rented for parties on the other side. Then as you keep walking, you hit the snack bar, then the pool tables and then finally the bowling alleys come into view. Boardwalk Bowl has 80 lanes on two sides. Instead of dark wood paneling and dark lights that you might be used to in a bowling alley, Boardwalk Bowl has upgraded all the lanes and lights to make it nice and bright and welcoming. The only part that still looks like an old-school bowling alley is the center of the bowling alley where you pay for your games and your shoes and the bar; everything else has been refurbished.

Going on a trip? You will definitely want to check out Viator for all of your activity needs. You can book food tours, water activities, walking tours and more.

Bowling at Boardwalk Bowl

Boardwalk Bowl has different games that you can play that makes bowling more fun for kids. Instead of doing regular bowling, kids can play angry birds bowling where the ball is the bird and the pins are the pigs in their building that you are trying to know down. There is also a monster game, a game where you build funny faces each time that you bowl, a pin pals game and more. My son had a great time trying out all the games, maybe too much fun as he kept switching games in the middle.

For younger kids, Boardwalk Bowl does have bowling ramps and they do have automatic bumpers that come up when kids bowl. When you enter the players in the system, specify that you want bumpers for that specific player and they will come up whenever it is their turn.

If you have bigger kids, you can do regular bowling or try playing HORSE where you have to hit the specified pin configuration or you get a letter.

Food and Drink at Boardwalk Bowl

As previously mentioned, Boardwalk Bowl does have a snack bar and a regular bar. At the snack bar you can get food such as nachos, pizza, wings, burgers and more. At the bar, you can get beer, wine and mixed drinks. Right now, until September 5, they have their Tropical Summer promotion running which includes special tropical food items such as aloha sliders, tropical wings and island pizzas and special drink items, including a coconut pineapple and strawberry slush for kids and mixed drinks for the adults.. We tried some of the food items and they got a thumbs up from both mom and kid. Even more impressive is that all items are made in house!

Birthday Parties at Boardwalk Bowl

Boardwalk Bowl is a great location to have a birthday party. All party packages include bowling and an arcade card. More expensive packages also include food and pitchers of soda. The larger of their three party rooms would also be a great location for a quinceanera or a sweet sixteen. It has a bar to make mocktails and cocktails and a screen to do a slide show or play a birthday video.
