Winter Park is simply beautiful and a great place to visit with kids.  My family has spent time walking Park Avenue, sitting in Central Park, and exploring downtown Winter Park during their festivals.  It is fun to visit and soak up the sun on a beautiful day, and feel the energy that is Winter Park.

Central Park

Central Park is located in the heart of downtown Winter Park and the home for many of Winter Park’s festivals and gatherings. Including Popcorn Flicks in the Park, hosted once a month, it’s free and open to the public.  Central Park is located right next to Park Avenue which is perfect for lunch or snack options.  Parking can be tricky, so think about making it more fun by hopping on the Sunrail to get you there and back.  The train station is located walking distance to Central Park.  Beautiful oak trees provide ample shade for a picnic lunch, or to laze about.  There is no playground area, but there is plenty of room to run around, so a ball or yard games can quickly turn that around.

Things to note: no pets allowed in the park

Mead Botanical Gardens

Mead Botanical Gardens has paths that lead you on a beautiful walk through natural plant habitats.  Many have compared this to more of a beautiful walking path park rather than a botanical garden.  There is plenty to look at and enjoy while also getting out in nature.  There is a marshy area where turtles are spotted sun bathing, a path along a butterfly garden, around several ponds, or along the river.  Picnic tables and a large amphitheater are also found on the property.

Things to note: Paths are not marked well, be sure to print out a map from the website to help you explore
