The warm weather is here and it is time to get back in to the pool.  Do your kids know how to swim?  They say if your child can crawl, they can learn to swim, so it really is the perfect age to get them in the water, especially if they love it.  Either way, it’s all about safety!  Did you know that swim lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88%?   Per the US Center for Disease Control, drowning is the leading cause of death for kids ages 1 to 4 years old.

Even If you don’t have a pool at your home, do you know people with a pool or live near water?  Or perhaps you visit your community pool often.  It literally only takes children 20 seconds to drown, per USACE, and living in Florida, it is so important for kids to know at least the basics of how to roll to a float position to save their own life.

Goldfish Swim School

Teaching kids from 4 months of age to 12 years old, Goldfish Swim School focuses on making learning to swim fun.  From infant swim to toddler lessons and stroke development for growing kids, lessons are offered year-round with a low group ratio of 4 kids to 1 teacher.  They also focus on the importance of water safety and route themselves in the science of swimplay.

Little Aquatics

With a passion for teaching littles to swim, Little Aquatics offers swim classes for every age.  From 6 months old’s infant class, to preschool to parent and toddler class, to advanced stroke development, Little Aquatics will teach your child the whole way through.  A great bonus about this swim school is that they come to you!  Don’t worry if you don’t have a pool, they are happy to teach at your community pool so you won’t have to worry about traveling too far to get lessons.

Location: They come to you! You can use your pool or community pool.

Patriot Aquatics

If you are looking at Swim Schools in Altamonte Springs, definitely check out  Patriot Aquatics.  They offer one on one lessons starting at 18 months of age and up.  Starting at 4 years old, they begin to offer group lessons with a max of 3 to 4 kids, though you can continue private lessons well on past this age.  Their goal is to provide children with the best swim lesson experience through their certified instructors.

Location: Two locations in Altamonte Springs:  991 Sand Lake Rd, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714 and 624 Bills Lane, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714

Safety First Swim School

Having used Safety First Swim School personally, the love and bond Ms. Tanya creates with her students is unlike any other school I have been to.  While there are other instructors, I preferred using Ms. Tanya, as the lessons she teaches is out of her home.  This is a huge bonus for me as my daughter is extremely sensitive to chlorine.  Ms. Tanya’s pool is a saltwater pool which makes it the perfect place specifically for my daughter who is so sensitive to pool chemicals (and the only saltwater pool where lessons are offered that I could find).  They teach infants aged six months and up to older kids as well.  From teaching basic survival skills for littles to perfecting and strengthening stroke development for the older ones.

Southwest Aquatics

Located in Winter Garden, Southwest Aquatics offers basic training for babies aged 6 months and older, maintenance lessons, and stroke development lessons for the older ones.  Lessons are private, though in large pool setting similar to the YMCA where other private lessons may be going on at the same time.  Their form of teaching is not as gentle as others, so depending on your child, this may work better for them.  Feel free to check out a class to see if this type of setting would work for your little.

Swim Kids USA

Locally owned and operated, Swim Kids USA is a popular swim school.  Teaching kids from age one to seven years old, they start with survival basics and build your little one’s independence from there.  They also offer lessons for specific strokes for the older ones who are looking to advance their endurance and streamline their breathing.  Their lessons are taught in group classes with a maximum of 6 kids per class.  They don’t believe in private lessons as they feel kids get much more out of the classes being in a group setting.

Tiny Turtles

Being dedicated to teaching babies the safety skills they need to survive once they begin crawling is a top priority for Tiny Turtles.  They teach the basics of water safety, ISR, maintenance and stroke lessons.  Most lessons are private, some small group stroke lessons available with a max of 3 to 4 kids.  Tiny Turtles taught my daughter to swim, specifically the founder, Ms Trish, who is amazing with kids!  They offer scholarships programs for those that are unable to afford classes as the company believes every child should receive high quality swim lessons regardless of their financial background.

YMCA

Offering both individual and group lessons, the YMCA teaches kids to swim in a large pool setting.  This means there may be other kids in the pool with them, such as in another lesson, regardless if you choose a private lesson or not.  Sometimes this can distract from their learning as they may hear kids crying, which can be very common.  They offer semi private as well.  Their style of learning is very gentle which works really well for some kids, and not so much for others.  You are always welcome to check out a class and watch to see if this style of learning would work for you child.  Most swim schools do allow you to watch a class to see if it is the right fit for you and your child.
