I love any day that the kids are off of school!  I especially love when I can take that day off and make it a fun learning experience with them.  This year, Martin Luther King Day is Monday, January 20th.  If you are looking for Martin Luther King Day Orlando events to attend with your kids, here is a list of the happenings around town that can help teach them about this civil rights activist.

I Have A Dream: Orange County Library Branches

Head to one of the Orange County Library branches’ for their I have A Dream Event throughout the month of January to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr.  Turn your kids dreams into a craft while learning the importance of peace.  This activity is recommended for elementary age children.  Make sure to check the dates and time and to register at your local branch.

Martin Luther King, Jr Parade: Downtown Orlando

Enjoy the free Martin Luther King, Jr. parade through downtown Orlando.  Reflect on Martin Luther King, Jr’s legacy and teach your kids about peace and equality while enjoying the festive floats.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Parade and Celebration: Eatonville, FL

This is Eatonville’s 43rd annual Martin Luther King, JR Parade.  As hosts, Eatonville wants to echo the message Dr. King strongly championed.  Wanting to unite a divided nation, the town hopes to unify the community by celebrating all that Dr. Martin Luther King stood for and preached.

Chasing the Dream 5K Celebration: Orlando, FL

Celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, JR while burning off some energy.  Register you and your child for a run through Blue Jacket Park.  Proceeds benefit the Urban League of Central Florida. Kids race fee is $20.  There will be a Zumba workout, vendors, raffles, and music.  All participants receive a commemorative medal and shirt.

MLK, JR Celebration and Parade: Oviedo, FL

The Martin Luther King, JR Parade begins from Oviedo High School, travels along E Broadway Street, ending at Round Lake Park.  After which, a family fun day takes place from 11 am to 2 pm at Round Lake Park where wristbands for kid’s activities will be available for a nominal fee.  Enjoy games, food trucks, music, and fun in remembrance of MLK Jr’s legacy by bringing peace and community together.

MLK, Jr Unity Parade: Ocoee, FL

The MLK, JR Unity Parade begins at 10 am at Citrus Elementary School, ending at West Oaks Mall.  After the parade, there will be an event at West Oaks Mall celebrating MLK, Jr with a keynote speaker discussing the history of this great man and the legacy he left behind.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Community Celebration: Winter Garden, FL

Come out and celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, JR with a community parade down Plant Street in Winter Garden.  Enjoy the community festival afterwards featuring live entertainment, speakers, vendors, kids’ activities, and more.  The festival runs from 10:30 am to 6 pm.

Dr. Martin Luther King Parade and Celebration: Sanford, FL

This parade is followed by a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s life and legacy.  Starting at the intersection of Historical Goldsboro Blvd and Persimmon Ave, the MLK, JR parade will be heading east to Holly Ave.  Immediately following the parade, enjoy a family fun festival bringing the community together at Ft. Mellon Park.  Enjoy music, vendors and children’s activities from 1 pm to 6 pm.
