What ‘ales’ you? Oh, you can’t find a babysitter but you’re craving an adult beverage – no problem! Orlando has plenty of family-friendly breweries to drink up. Fun fact: Florida ranks eighth in the nation for most craft breweries, with a total of 374 collectively producing 1,332,659 barrels per year, according to the Brewers Association. In addition to beercentric restaurants, gastropubs and taprooms, Orlando is home to approximately 35 breweries and counting… and we’ll drink to that (but, of course, safely with kiddos in tow). So whether you prefer pales, reds, sours, stouts, blonde ales, IPAs or a flight to savor all flavors, here’s a round-up of the best family-friendly breweries in Orlando.

Big River Grille & Brewing Works (Walt Disney World’s Boardwalk)

The food and drink may be average but the location (Disney property) is absolutely magical! Nestled within the Disney hotel area, reserve an outside table at Big River Grille & Brewing Works to drink up signature brews, iconic scenery and, best of all, boardwalk games and performers. Listen, this place is a true hidden gem (shhh… keep it on the down-low for your fellow beer-lovin’ parents).

You can watch your children win (over-priced) carnival stuffed animals as you stuff your face with the 2:00 A.M. Burger, a generous patty topped with crispy hash browns, American cheese, bacon and a fried egg. Now that’s breakfast for dinner done right! And, in the light of Florida’s sunshine, try a dark beer, such as the Iron Horse Stout, which pops with notes of chocolate. After feasting on a hearty meal, lighten your load with a spin and giggles aboard a 4-person Surrey bike. It’ll be a magical family bike ride to remember.

Crooked Can Brewing Company (Winter Garden)

Following a stroll through the farmer’s market or fishing off the pier at Newton Park, follow the brick-lined streets of historic Winter Garden to find Crooked Can Brewing Company. It’s the flagship place within Plant Street Market, a family-friendly artisan food and shopping hall. There’s ample seating inside near the bar and restrooms, though families typically prefer the outdoor space which is somewhat reminiscent of a traditional beer garden, with long communal tables, typical tabletops for smaller parties, two open grassy areas and, oftentimes, live music.

If you can, snag a spot near one of the grassy areas so you can watch your little pints play as you sip on cold pints. Choose from a menu featuring core beers, specialty small patch beers and seasonal selections. Pssst… if your kiddos pretty much live on mac n’ cheese too, Mac’d Out is sure to please their picky palates.

Dees Brothers Brewery (Sanford)

Dees Brothers Brewery is a family-owned brewery. The brewery is owned and operated by two brothers. Perhaps each brewski is made with (brotherly) love! Who knows? Dees Brothers is a welcomed addition to historic Sanford, with free retro arcade games, classic board games and upbeat tunes. Dees Brothers has a comfy lounge area, where you can sit back, relax and enjoy your beer and also some great dishes on Dees Brothers’ menu. The menu mainly features soup, salad, sandwiches and snacks (say that fast four times!). For family members on restricted diets, the menu includes vegan dishes and other special selections. They also have a Jr. Brewer’s menu which comes with a sandwich or hot dog, juice and a squeeze pop. All items on the Jr. Brewers menu also come with a 20-page activity kit to keep the kids occupied. Dees Brothers understands that a bored kit is an unhappy kid and an unhappy will want to go home.

Dees Brothers has four core beers, Cotswolds Ale, an English amber ale; Dees Bier, a hefeweizen; Merry Men’s Porter, a London porter and Thunder & Lighning, an American IPA. They also six rotational beers and a different seasonal beer for each of the four seasons, except fall which has two. Since it’s about fall y’all, it’s almost time for these fall favorites to be served. These limited edition flavors include Who Needs Pumpkin, a spiced amber ale, and Apple Basket, a cider with cinnamon.

Home State Brewing Company (Horizon West)

Run by self-proclaimed “nerds,” happy hour can be had at Home State Brewing Company with your own little nerds or nerds to be – even on a busy school night. You see, their taproom has inviting plush couches that’ll make your kids feel right at home as they knock out homework. Hey, you’ll be taking a test of your own… a taste test that is. Try the low-alcohol (3.4% ABV) Sea Level, which has a strong mango flavor and hint of lime.

If you want to grab a bite to eat, there are food trucks located outside of Home State Brewing; they are on site from 5 pm to 9 pm during the week and on weekends from 12 pm to 4 pm and 5 pm to 9 pm. Afterward, cross over into Hamlin Town Center to warm the hearts of your family with a cool treat at nearby Abbotts Frozen Custard or catch a movie at nearby Cinepolis. While Home State Brewing has only been open for a few months, it has quickly become a local favorite.

Hourglass Brewing (Hourglass District & Longwood)

While both of its locations are fun, Hourglass Brewing’s main brewery in Longwood is the best bet for families. It boasts arcade games, pinball, corn hole and board games and, on occasion, even hosts kid-specific special events. So in other words, your kids won’t complain when you tell them that you’re going to the brewery. They will definitely stay occupied, and dare I say have a good time, while you enjoy a pint or two.

Hourglass has an impressive list of about 40 different beers, and while it may not be quite as long as a school textbook, it will definitely take you more than a few minutes to read. And, fair warning, the decision process won’t be easy, especially since Hourglass prides itself on natural, hand-selected ingredients; meaning… they make a good beer.

Some of the beers you can choose from at Hourglass are the Turbo Yeet, DDH New England IPA; Fatty Boom Boom; Triple IPA with African Hops; Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?, English Brown Ale; Florida Paw, Florida Weisse w/ Dragon Fruit, Pawpaw and Soursop and many more.

If you are hungry, you can order eats from Wako Taco and Papa Bee’s are located in the same plaza as the brewery.

Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company (Ivanhoe Park District)

Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company is an independent craft brewery located in the Ivanhoe Park area of Orlando. The brewery uses the finest ingredients to create its delicious craft beers including golden pilsners, Belgian witbier, American IPA, blonde ale and more. If you want to try a variety of different beers, or try something new, Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company has a tasting room with over 15 beers on tap. While there isn’t a restaurant at the brewery, they do have food trucks on-site and partner with certain restaurants for food delivery. You can enjoy your eats on their casual outdoor deck.

The brewery has partnered up with MAM Events to host weekly trivia nights, movie nights and themed events at the brewery, many of which are family-friendly or specifically for families.

Good to know – Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company does offer a brewery tour. The tours are private and can be requested on their website.

Park Pizza & Brewing Company (Lake Nona)

Friday night pizza is a family tradition, right?! Perfectly pair pizza and beer with an end-of-the-week meal of wood-fired pizza and housemade brews at Park Pizza & Brewing Company. If you’re questioning whether a pizza place could really master beer-making… know that this Lake Nona restaurant was awarded the Bronze Award for Best American Lager 2022 by the Best Florida Beer organization. Don’t be shy when it comes to asking for pie and pint recommendations. For example, Park’s chefs say that spices on the Pepperoni Picante compliment the hoppy and bitter characteristics of their IPA. And if your kiddos need to practice their debate skills, tap into one of the biggest foodie debates: Hawaiian pizza! Park’s version, called the Big Island, is made with house tomato sauce, mozzarella, housemade sausage, ham, bacon and, yup, fresh pineapple.

Grab a seat on the large outdoor patio that is situated right next to a green space where kids can run around and burn off energy while waiting for the food to arrive. Check the Lake Nona calendar page as they hold special events in the town center(where Park Pizza is located), including movie nights, shows, holiday festivals and more that are completely free and great for families.

Once you’re stuffed, wander next door to Boxi Park, Central Florida’s first shipping container park, which has live entertainment on the weekends.

Persimmon Hollow Brewing (Lake Eola & Winter Garden)

The tagline of Persimmon Hollow Brewing is “Drink sensible, but get weird.” That seems applicable when out with the family. Persimmon Hollow has four locations in the Central Florida area, Lake Eola, Flamingo Crossings Town Center, Downtown Deland and Port Orange. The first two locations are the most convenient for Orlando families.

In the Lake Eola Taproom, you can try over 20 different beers with names such as 3 Wise Guys, What the Hay, Undercover Sea Lion and Resistance = Futile (We assume that this is their best seller because after all, you can’t resist!). Some beers are exclusively at their Lake Eola location, including Lions Pride (a honey beer) and Lake Eola Lap (a pilsner). The Lake Eola location also boasts a full restaurant serving a variety of plates including flatbreads, salads, sandwiches and burgers.

The Flamingo Crossings location has 19 beers on tap. The majority of the options are the same as the Lake Eola location. This location also serves good eats, but its menu is more limited than the Lake Eola location. This location, however, has a nice outdoor patio that is just perfect for families to sit out and enjoy a meal, while the adults order two cold ones.

Ravenous Pig Brewing Company (Winter Park)

Ravenous Pig Brewing Company is a location that the whole family, including Fido, can enjoy. That’s because its beautiful beer garden is both kid-friendly and pet-friendly. The Ravenous Pig Brewing Company (TRP) is situated behind its famed restaurant, The Ravenous Pig, and offers a different, yet equally delish menu.

The beer garden features TRP’s small batch craft beer, including year-round favorites such as Lone Palm Golden Ale, Red Drum and Working Man Porter as well as a rotating list of seasonal favorites. The beer garden also has a Ravenous Pig food truck serving up delicious eats.

In honor of your kiddos favorite toys, order Trucks and Trains, a double-dry hopped American Pale Ale with Cascade and Amarillo hops.

Rockpit Brewing (SoDo District)

Rockpit Brewing is a family-friendly brewery located in the SoDo area of Orlando. RockPit has 20 beers on tap, and they pride themselves on featuring a variety of beers so that there is something for everyone. On tap, they have IPAs, sours, belgians, germans, lagers and pilsners with imaginative names such as Chum, Darth Malt Legs, Squeeze the Day and Geschmack Yourself. If you are the designated driver or just don’t like beer, but want to go for the vibes, they also serve seltzer.

Rockpit has teamed up with their neighbor Cecil’s BBQ to provide an exclusive menu for the brewery. Grab some smoked meat sliders, with beer cheese of course, a pulled pork sundae, no ice cream involved, or some smoked wings. All of them would pair well with your craft beer from Rockpit. Kids will love the Texas Mud dessert with chocolate mousse and crushed oreo pieces.

Rockpit does hold weekly live events including a Tuesday Jam Session, Yoga and Beer, trivia nights and game nights. I would probably leave the kiddos home for these though.

Sideward Brewing (Milk District)

Sideward Brewing is a family-owned brewery located in the Milk District. Sideward Brewing is located in a converted warehouse that allows you to have your beer feet away from where it’s being made. There are 20 beers on tap and there is a constant rotation, so you can try something new each time you visit. Some of the beers that they have on tap include Brace Face (takes me back to an awkward time in my teens), a Berliner; Affinity for the Unattainable, a double IPA; Punks in the Waiting Room, a house lager; Friends & Enemies, a coffee milk stout and much more.

While you might not expect house-made eats at a brewery, that’s exactly what you will find here Just like the beer, the food is made in-house. They offer a variety of sandwiches, sides and snacks that pair perfectly with their craft brews. Grab your food and your beer and head on out to the covered patio where the kids will have a little more space. We recommend bringing along some cards or travel games for them to play.
