Here you are in the City Beautiful, surrounded by theme parks, and cannot find a thing to do with the kids! The Orlando area has some of the most popular theme park resorts including Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, but you are looking for something a bit more. No, you don’t have to visit some of the most popular theme parks like Magic Kingdom or Universal Studios to have a great time in the Orlando area. While Kissimmee may not be as well known as its big brother (or big sister) Orlando, there are a lot of fun activities to do in Kissimmee as well. From airboat rides to safaris to local parks and lakes, the Kissimmee area has something to offer for the whole family to enjoy.

Altitude Trampoline Park

If your kids are always bouncing off the walls at home, then take them to Altitude Trampoline Park where they can bounce to their heart’s content. Altitude has a variety of attractions that kids, or the kids inside us, will love. There are trampolines, foam pits, trampoline basketball, trapeze swing, zip line, ropes course, dodgeball and a stunt bag. For your burgeoning gymnast, they have a tumble track. Do your kids love to climb? Altitude has a reaction wall that they will love. If your kids like video games, then Valo Jump at Altitude will probably appeal to them. It is an interactive game platform that combines the trampoline and high-motion graphics.

Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures

No need for hours-long driving to visit the Everglades – just a quick trip to Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures will do the trick. Offering some of the best airboat tours in the area, take part in this unique experience of seeing areas that remain untouched in the Central Florida Everglades. Be on the lookout for alligators, exotic birds, turtles, and many more animals in their natural habitat. While the entire family will enjoy an airboat ride, it is recommended for children six and older. Boggy Creek is open daily from 9 am to 5:30 pm; reservations are recommended, but half-hour tours are available for walk-ins until 5 pm every day. There are different tours available for families as well as private tours too. Make this a full-day experience and go gem and fossil mining by the water tower where you will discover natural resources and hidden treasures. Hungry? Finish out the day at the BBQ restaurant and see all the fun things offered in the gift shop.

Fun Spot America

Fun Spot America is a great place to take the kids and if you are used to going to and paying for a larger amusement park, the price for Fun Spot is just right. While not as big as other parks, Fun Spot has enough to do to keep the kids entertained for a few hours with midway rides and games, roller coasters (including a wooden roller coaster), kiddie rides, go-karts on multi-level go-kart tracks and arcade games. Even better, Fun Spot allows parents to ride free with littles that are 54″ or shorter; just make sure to ask for a Chauffeur Pass. If there is a daredevil in the group, you will definitely want to take them (or send them either one) on the skycoaster. They will drop from 300 feet and swing back and forth across the park.

Fun Spot America in Kissimmee is located right next door to Old Town Kissimmee (see longer description below), where you can grab something to eat, play some games, visit a haunted house or more. Across the street from Fun Spot Kissimmee is World of Food Trucks where you can grab great eats from over 50 food trucks including wings, bbq, pizza, nachos, tacos, arepas, sushi, funnel cakes, fresh juices, ice cream and more.

Kissimmee Lakefront Park

In the land of perpetual sunshine, planning a day trip with the family to visit some of Florida’s natural beauty visiting isn’t a hard thing to do. If that is what you are looking for, then look no further than Kissimmee Lakefront Park. Located on Lakeview Drive in Kissimmee, the park is one of the best things about Kissimmee. Take the kiddos swimming in the lake and let them dry off while running around on the playground. Make it a full day by bringing all the fixings for a great barbeque or picnic and have lunch in one of the picnic areas in the park. The park has open grills for use, but if making the food is not your thing, then let the family enjoy food from the concession stand. The park is open daily from 7 am to 10 pm. While the park is open for public use, if you are considering using a pavilion for a family day, it is recommended to make a reservation in advance.

Medieval Times

Arrive to the castle, step across the drawbridge, and step back into time! Once you receive your crown, get ready to cheer on your knight! Medieval Times is a unique experience for the entire family. The Medieval Times show has been running for many years and has brought joy to thousands of visitors to the Orlando/Kissimmee area. Children of all ages will like the live action of the knights jousting, the sword fights, and the parade of horses. All of this cheering will make you hungry so delight in the Medieval Times dinner that is provided. It is a four-course meal that includes soup, salad, entree and dessert.

We recommend arriving early to the show so that you can walk around the Hall of Arms and see different weapons that were utilized in battle during medieval times. You can also take older kids to the Museum of Torture to see different implements of torture,

Medieval Times; live shows are done daily, however, show times and tickets may be limited so it is best to purchase tickets in advance of the show. Attendees can choose from several packages from general admission to the Queen’s Royalty Package. You can even have birthday parties for your little princes and princesses too! Plan your visit as a day trip or a rainy day activity; either way, you will not be disappointed.

Mighty Jungle Golf

Looking for one of the best ways to have fun with the family without having to pay theme park prices? Voted as the best miniature golf in the Orlando/Kissimmee area, Mighty Jungle Golf offers fun for the whole family. Located on Irlo Bronson in Kissimmee, Mighty Joe is conveniently located across from Animal Kingdom. Enjoy the day with the family at one of their two newly renovated eighteen-hole golf courses complete with animals, waterfalls, and caves too. Playing a few rounds will work up an appetite so head over to the shaded picnic area and enjoy a quick bite while cooling down with the family. Mighty Joe is open daily from 10 am to 9 pm, and Friday and Saturday, they are open until 10 pm.

Orlando Tree Trek Adventure Park

Welcome to the jungle! Sort of, but Orlando’s Tree Trek Adventure Park allows you to release your inner Tarzan. It is one of Central Florida’s best family-friendly attractions. There are two separate ropes courses for kiddos with twenty-one challenges. This is one for the entire family to enjoy. Located on Sinclair Road in Kissimmee, the park has wobbly suspension bridges, a chance for your to leap into hanging nets, and for the super thrill seeker, a four hundred twenty-five-foot zipline! The park opens at 8 am daily with groups departing every thirty minutes. On some days, the time may vary so we recommend checking the website before visiting the park. Children six and older and able to reach a fingertip height of 4’7” can participate in the yellow courses; tree trekkers twelve and older can enjoy the junior and adult courses as long as they can reach a fingertip height of 5’11” (for the junior course, it is 5’9”.) There is a weight restriction of 275 pounds or less to participate on any of the ropes courses; Tree Trek also has courses to designed to meet the needs of adventurers with differing abilities.

Painted Horizons Hot Air Balloon Rides

We all know that central Florida has some beautiful area, including Kissimmee. How about seeing the City Beautiful from the skies? If there are any thrill seekers in your family, try taking them on a hot air balloon ride. Painted Horizons Hot Air Balloon Rides offers local residents a chance for adventure from their own backyard. Families with children seven and older will love soaring over Kissimmee to see Disney World and the surrounding areas, birds, and some of Florida’s natural beauty. Flights happen daily, weather permitting. The flight itself is usually an hour long, however, with balloon preparation and setup, the entire experience can take up to three hours. If parents want to have some fun without the littles, Painted Horizons also offers couples-only flights too. This will not be an inexpensive venture, but it will definitely be a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

The Escape Effect

Voted best in Orlando three years in a row, The Escape Effect offers loads of fun for the entire family. Conveniently located on International Drive in Orlando, EE offers visitors four different escape rooms to test their problem-solving skills. It is a perfect place for families to play as a team or to play against each other. You can choose from a seventy-five-minute adventure to a two-hour escape room which is the longest escape room in the entire state! EE has four different escape rooms that range from moderate to difficult. The Escape Effect is open Monday through Thursday 11 am to 9:30 pm and Friday through Sunday 10 am to 10:30 pm.

Toho Riverboat Cruises

Out on beautiful Lake Tohopekaliga, you will find the Toho Riverboat cruising along. On a lazy, hazy day in central Florida, many riders choose to do a sunset or night cruise, riverboat adventure, and for families with older children, the karaoke cruise! If you have a large family, you might even consider renting the entire boat. On the Riverboat Adventure, cruise over to Goat Island to pet and feed the goats from the boat! On the ride, make sure to look for other native Florida wildlife like birds, snakes, and even alligators! The cruise usually takes about two and a half hours with snacks and refreshments available for purchase. If you are looking for a bit more action and want to kick it up a notch, then take a ride on the Karaoke cruise. Everyone will take turns singing and enjoying the complimentary goodies. The best part is that these cruises are kid-friendly for little ones of all ages and it is a great way to spend time with the family. With so many choices available, it is recommended to call and check the availability of the cruise you prefer.
