Sleepaway Camps – Driveable from Orlando

Summer sleepaway camps are a great way for kids to build their individuality, self confidence, and character.  Living in Central Florida gives us the opportunity to have many options to choose from.  You can also pick from locations in our back yard to a few hours away.  (Updated March 2021)

Here are a variety of sleepaway camps located in Florida that are no more than 4 hours drive from Orlando.

Camp Crystal Lake

Camp Crystal Lake has a vision to be a place where individuals can learn to be the best version of themselves.  Camp Crystal Lake is owned and run by the School Board of Alachua County, and has been going since 1948 on their beautifully wooded 140 acres of land.  

Choose between Summer Camp and Adventure Camp. Summer Camp will give campers the summer camp we all imagine with archery, swimming, canoeing, crafts, dancing, and so much more. Adventure camp sends campers on a 5 day journey where they canoe, camp, explore and play. (Available for 6th – 11th graders only.)

Camp Dovewood

Camp Dovewood is a girls only christian sleepaway camp.  Camp Dovewood has over 35 years of experience emphasising physical and spiritual growth.  Campers can choose from over 24 activities to participate in during their week session, including horseback riding.  Camp Dovewood offers (2) 1 week sessions and (2) 2 week sessions.

Camp Frontier

Since 1999, Camp Frontier has provided an outstanding traditional Overnight American Summer Camp experience to thousands of boys and girls from throughout the world. Camp Frontier offers over 40 activities from which campers can choose. Every session also includes a Talent Show, Campfires, ColorWarz games, and a day at one of Florida’s Theme Parks. Campers can choose from two-week or three-week sessions.

Camp Kateri Girl Scout Camp

Camp Kateri is an all-girls camp that allows girls to experience traditional camp activities such as: archery, canoeing, sailing, kayaking, hiking and exploration. In addition, each camp week has a specific theme so your camper can choose which theme interests them the most. With titles such as Ultimate Camp Adventure, Artrageous, Outrageous Outbursts, and Kamp Katniss there is definitely a theme for everyone.

Camp Kulaqua

Camp Kulaqua has over 60 years of experience bringing people together.  Complete with go carts, water park, zoo and nature center, rock climbing, and zipline campers will have plenty to choose from for activities. Campers will be divided into age appropriate groups.  There is also a Horsemanship specialty camp available.  Weekly sessions are now open for registration.

Camp La No Che

Camp La No Che is a boy scout sleep away camp with over 1,600 acres of natural Florida forests.  Weekly summer camp sessions are available in June and July.  Activities such as fishing, canoeing, swimming, kayaking, and sailing are just a few activities available each week.

At Circle F Dude Ranch Camp, kids can enjoy 500 acres of a nature filled playground along with a 42 acre lake. Earth Immersion Scuba Summer Camp

Earth Immersion Scuba Summer Camp is an adventure, and outdoor education camp for teens.  No prior scuba experience is required.  Learn to safely and properly scuba and cave dive in the natural springs of North Florida.  Teens will learn aquatic biology, ecology, geology, and hydrology as well as enjoying activities like swimming, canoeing, and short hikes. 7 day and 13 day options are available June – July.

Everglades Youth Conservation Center

Everglades Youth Conservation Center  features a unique opportunity to become educated in conservation and nature with outdoor adventure activities in the Florida Everglades.  EYCC will also help campers to build fundamentals in swimming, paddle sports, archery, and fishing.  Campers can also choose their eco-equestrian summer camp program.  Orientation Open Houses will be held in March and April, they are encouraged to attend but not required for registration.  Weekly summer camp options available June – August.

Florida Elks Youth Camp

Florida Elks Youth Camp is a 405 acre complex of fun. During their stay, campers participate in a range of activities including: archery, swimming, canoeing, arts & crafts, soccer and the ropes course. Each week also includes; making s’mores around the campfire, getting soaked by a 2000 gallon water truck on Water Day and a Movie Night. Please note that activities repeat each week, so you might only want to sign up for one session.

Life for Youth Camp

Life for Youth Camp is a non-denominational Christian Camp. Its purpose is to provide clean, wholesome recreation and to give each camper an opportunity to know Jesus Christ personally. A daily Christian Bible Study is a required part of the program. While at camp, kids are able to choose from a variety of activities including: arts and crafts, swimming, paddle boating, fishing, bouncy houses and more.

Ocala Outdoor Adventure Camp

Ocala Outdoor Adventure Camp has offered action-packed adventures for over 50 years.  They are located on a 57-acres and offer several camps to choose from depending on age group.  Campers can explore the ecosystem, learn to identify different plants and animals, learn to shoot a bow, camp outdoors, and so much more.

They even host a leadership camp for older teens.

Pine Tree Camp

Pine Tree Camp is a perfect option for a first timer’s sleepaway camp. Kids sleepover from Monday to Friday and go home on the weekends. Kids participate in traditional camp activities such as: Bonfires and making s’mores, pool parties and talent shows, large group games and beach barbecues, weekly field trips, arts and crafts, ice cream socials, zany sports and more.

YMCA Camp Wewa is an all-inclusive co-ed overnight and day camp operated by the YMCA of Central Florida. YMCA Camp Winona

At YMCA Camp Winona children develop and grow throughout the summer as they learn and connect with friends and nature. Each camper participates in land and water activities daily. Campers choose their activities based on their interests to perfect new skills. Archery, Riflery, Arts and Crafts, teambuilding, team sports, dance and cheerleading, drama, nature study, garden games, gaga pit, newspaper, hiking and more round out the land activities.
