My family loves to visit light displays during the holidays; it is one of our favorite activities. There is nothing that exemplifies the magic of the holidays more than the holiday lights. In Orlando, we have a lot of options for light displays, including walk through displays and drive through displays. Probably one of the biggest light displays is Night of a Million Lights (3 million actually) at Give Kids the World Village.

What is Give Kids the World Village?

Give Kids the World  Village is a resort that provides trips for kids with critical illnesses and their families free of charge to Central Florida. The resort is located on 89 acres in Kissimmee and includes everything from carnival rides and games to a theater, a swimming pool, beauty salon, ice cream parlor and more. They ensure that families can get away from their everyday trials and have a great vacation.

This year, Give Kids the World Village has unfortunately been closed for a large part of the year due to Coronavirus, so they decided to transform their resort into a light paradise as a way to raise funds to be able to continue bringing kids and their families to Orlando.

What is there to see and do at Night of a Million Lights?

The majority of the villas(and there are a lot of them) at Give Kids the World Village have been decorated with lights or displays to create Night of a Million Lights. Many of the villas are sponsored by local and national companies and they have decorated the houses with their business color schemes and props from their business. While you might think this takes away from the experience, it actually makes it more fun. My kids loved trying to figure out who was sponsoring each house and taking pictures with the different displays.

Walk through the Christmas tree trail to see decorated trees and visit the Dino Holiday land which is a dinosaur themed mini golf course decorated in lights; younger kids will love this.

These LED stars are a great way to light up your home for the holidays or year round.

There are also rides at Give Kids the World village for kids (and adults) to go on. They include a carousel, a swing ride and a pedal copter. You can also play one our favorite carnival game’s, Whac-a-mole. The rides are included with admission, but the game costs $5 per person to play.

Bring your camera to get your holiday photos done. There are many spots for photo ops spread throughout Night of a Million Lights, from Giant photo frames to ornaments. The decorate villas also make a great photo background. And of course, the best photo op of all is one with the big guy himself, Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Best of all, free hot chocolate and ice cream are included with your visit. It was too cold to have ice cream during out visit, it was only 47 degrees out, but we took advantage of the hot chocolate. There are also other food and drinks available for purchase such as cookies, pizza, hot dogs and soda.

Things to Note

Give Kids the World Village is humongous. It is probably the longest light display I have ever walked through. When you make your reservation, they ask that you only stay two hours to avoid crowding; I was sure we would be done way before then. We ended up being there for 1 hr. and 45 min; we made a short stop to drink hot chocolate for about 10 minutes, but the rest of the time we were walking through the village, seeing the lights and taking photos. Had the kids gone on any of the rides, we would have been there for 2 hours for sure.

This is the first time that Give Kids the World Village is doing this light display, because the village is closed due to COVID-19. Because of this, itt might be the only time that they do the display, if they are able to reopen to families next year, so we highly advise you to visit this year.

The cost for Night of a Million Lights varies depending on when you go. Holiday dates are the most expensive and are $40 for adults and $20 for kids.

Dates right before Christmas and between Christmas and New Year’s are peak dates and cost $35 for adults and $18 for kids.

Standard dates are $25 for adults and $15 for kids.

Night of a Million Lights at Give Kids the World Village is a great night out with the kids. You really do get a lot for the price and are able to help support a great charity at the same time. And if you are still in doubt and need more convincing, my six-year old said “this is the most amazing night of my life!”
